Join us to hear from Rob Lower from Lego Ventures . Founded in 2018, LEGO Ventures invests in the future of learning, creativity, and play. They work with entrepreneurs, ideas, and startups centered around playful learning, which includes industries like gaming, adaptive education, and virtual reality.

Joining Rob will be Ben Caulfield - Co-Founder of Eedi a company that Lego Ventures has invested in. Eedi have made it their mission to help every child build the skills and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Hundreds of millions of children are affected by the growing inequality in education. Teachers are a stretched resource, struggling to provide the personalised feedback that each child needs and deserves.

16.30 - Online networking

Closing our first day is Alex Barker co-author of "How to: be more pirate". Alex will be sharing about piratey tips and examples. She will tell us about The Be More Pirate network, a group of autonomous rebels who are out to cause good trouble by standing up to the status quo. From healthcare to education to big business, they have overcome personal limitations, upend the status quo in their areas of work, and find co-conspirators with the aim to be a little more rebellious and a lot more pirate.

Prior to joining LEGO Ventures Rob worked at the LEGO Group as Senior Director in Digital Consumer Engagement and was responsible for developing and growing LEGO Group’s connected digital ecosystem, in particular launching LEGO® Life – a safe social network for kids where they can share their creativity with each other, which reached 8m users in 2018. Before the LEGO Group, Rob worked in marketing at Nintendo of Europe where he launched the Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS in the European market, and also at BBC Studios where he led physical and digital product development and marketing around their consumer products business. He is passionate around the kids’ technology and gaming space and finding new and innovative ways for kids and families to learn through play. He lives in Caversham in the UK with his partner and three young daughters, loves classic Alfa Romeos and retro video games, watching Queens Park Rangers and going for runs with his dog Bowser.

Alex is a speaker, facilitator, writer and community builder. And a Pirate. She works alongside author Sam Conniff and leads the global Be More Pirate network. Using the most interesting and inspiring stories from the community, she helps organisations to think differently, change their culture, and challenge the way things are usually done. In September 2020 Sam and Alex published How to: Be More Pirate. Alex studied literature at King’s College London, followed by an MA in International Relations where she focused on the conflict in the Middle East. After a six-month stint backpacking around the region, she took a job in international development, moved briefly into social care before spending seven years at the RSA (Royal Society of Arts) as communications manager.
